Whatever the times were in the past, but today’s time has changed. Now women not only walk shoulder to shoulder with men, but they are also boasting of going ahead of men. Today, not only men are providing security to women, but women are also providing security to men. At the time when the festival of Raksha Bandhan became popular, it was believed that women are weak and men are strong. Therefore, sisters always looked towards their brothers with a helping eye. But now, as time has taken a turn, the form of the festival has also changed and yesterday on the day of Raksha Bandhan, not only the sister tied a rakhi on the brother’s wrist, but the brother also tied a rakhi on the sister’s hand and took blessings from each other, took a pledge to protect each other and move forward in life by filling it with love. As per the demand of the time, yesterday the brother also tied a rakhi on the brother’s wrist and the sister also tied a rakhi on the sister’s hand. By doing this, this festival of Raksha Bandhan became gender neutral.
If seen, then this was a unique system introduced by the society for the safety of women in those times. At that time, women used to remain confined to their homes. It was mandatory to have a man or a watchman to accompany them. But today its form is changing. Now sisters are taking care of their brothers. In today’s time, this festival of Rakshabandhan does not only show the weakness of women and the strength of men. Rather, today its meaning has become deeper. Now Rakshabandhan is a festival of becoming each other’s strength.
In the Indian tradition, the festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated every year with great pomp to strengthen the relationship between brother and sister with purity. This is a wonderful system of family and society filled with our culture. In this system, all the members of the family take care of each other. Everyone loves each other and participates in each other’s happiness. When any person in the family is surrounded by some sorrow, the rest of the family members try their best to overcome that sorrow. The festival of Raksha Bandhan reminds us of this every year. Therefore, it is not necessary that only sisters tie Rakhi. Brothers should also tie Rakhi to their brothers or men should tie Rakhi to their loved ones. This is the demand of the time because time has proved that now men and women are equal.
