You should apply sunscreen if you have a job that often involves exposure to the sun. “People who work outside on the site have to do that. But I’m also thinking of postmen, for example,” says Maselis. “Of course you also have to lubricate when you work in the garden, when you walk or cycle.”
To estimate how dangerous the sun is, look at the UV index. You can find it on the site Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI). The UV index shows the effect of the strength of the sun’s rays on unprotected skin. “If the index is below 3, there is no danger of sunburn,” says Maselis. “From 5 it becomes dangerous. If the UV index is higher than 7, it is not recommended to go out into the sun. These days the index fluctuates around 6 to 7. So apply yourself and stay out of the hottest hours Sun.”
