Mohali: Matthew Wade’s performance was crucial when Australia won the first T20 against India. Wade, who came to the crease in the seventh over, scored an unbeaten 45 off 21 balls. Wade’s innings included two sixes and six fours. Wade was the star of Gujarat Titans who won the title in the recent IPL. But Wade was not able to produce any great performance.
Wade scored only 157 runs in 10 matches. Gujarat’s coach Ashish Nehra explains the reason. “Wade wasn’t able to shine at all that season. The player played as an opener and number three. But when he plays in the Australian jersey, Wade comes out as fifth or sixth. I remember hitting consecutive sixes against Shaheen Afridi in the last T20 World Cup. Wade has a special ability to play in the lower order. He is experienced in that,” said Nehra.

“Green laid the foundation for Aussies’ victory, but it was Wade who played the decisive innings. Some of the shots Wade played in the end were beautiful. Harshal Patel’s shot played through square leg at the slover also needs to be mentioned.” Nehra added.
India lost the match by four wickets. After losing the toss and coming into bat, India scored 208 runs for the loss of six wickets. Hardik Pandya was the team’s top scorer with an unbeaten 71 off 30 balls. In reply, Australia chased down the target in 19.2 overs at the loss of six wickets. Axar Patel took three wickets.
