After opening yesterday, the fifth round of the EuroLeague was completed today (Friday) with four more games, when Fenerbahçe remained undefeated in the continent’s top factory when they beat Andolo Eps 79:88 in the Istanbul derby thanks to a great game by Scotty Wilvkin. In other games, Villervan recovered from the loss at the hands of Eliyahu on the way to a 61:87 victory over the yellows’ next opponent, Basconia. Barcelona defeated Milan 56:74 and Red Star Belgrade also kept home and led by Luca Vildoza beat Bayern Munich 72:78.
Andolo Eps – Fenerbahce 79:88
Scotty Wilvkin’s move to Fenerbahce after four years at Maccabi Tel Aviv turned out to be a stroke of brilliance, with his side remaining top of the EuroLeague following a prestigious Istanbul derby away win over the European champions. The guard starred with 25 points, including the last five that closed the story and opened the big gap. Marko Godoric helped him with 19 of his own. On the other side, last year’s MVP, Vasilija Micic, led the blue-reds with 19 points, but did not prevent them from falling to a 3:2 balance. Other exes of Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ante Zizic and Elijah Bryant, finished with 6 and 12 points respectively.
Villerban – Basconia 61:87
The French recovered from last week’s loss to Maccabi Tel Aviv with a blowout against the Basque rivals at home, giving them their second win of the season. Former Hapoel Jerusalem Ratin Obasohn and Jonah Mathews led the host with 13 points each, when they opened a big gap already in the first quarter that ended 10:24 and did not slow down until the end. On the other side, Rokas Gidraitis led the Spaniards with 14 points that did not help them record only their second loss of the season, when in six days Oded Ketch’s players will arrive to host Vitoria.
Barcelona – Milan 56:74
No forces in Catalonia. Charas’ team kept the Italians at 20% for threes and under 50% for twos on the way to a very good defensive display and a victory that equalized the balance of the two teams to 2:3. After a 21-point tie in the first quarter, the Italians scored 20 points in the next two quarters and 11 Spanish players took advantage of this to score on their own. Mike Tobi led the Catalans with 13 points, while for the group from Milan only Brandon Davis appeared with 18 points.
Red Star Belgrade – Bayern Munich 72:78
Luca Vildoza was linked to Maccabi Tel Aviv during the last month, but in the end he chose to lead the Red Star Belgrade squad and today he showed the home crowd who owns the house.
