Widzew Łódź Eyes Bulgarian Midfielder Janis Karabelov Amidst Active Transfer Window
Widzew Łódź is demonstrating significant ambition this winter, bolstering its squad with high-profile signings and now setting its sights on Janis Karabelov, a 29-year-old midfielder from Partizan Belgrade. The Polish club has already made a splash with substantial investment in new talent, signaling a clear intent to compete at a higher level.
A Busy Winter for Widzew
Fans of Widzew Łódź are experiencing an exciting period as the club actively reshapes its roster. Prior to Christmas, the team announced the acquisition of Osman Bukari for a reported EUR 5.5 million, a considerable sum within the Polish league. Bukari is one of three new players to join the Łódź team so far, alongside Christopher Cheng and Lukas Lerager.
Karabelov Emerges as a Key Target
According to journalist Lorenzo Lepore, Widzew’s transfer ambitions don’t end there. The club is now pursuing Janis Karabelov, a Bulgarian international currently playing for Partizan Belgrade. Karabelov has represented his country 12 times and is under contract with Partizan until mid-2027.
The midfielder has been a consistent performer for the Belgrade club, making 27 appearances in the current competition, contributing with two goals and four assists. His skillset is highlighted in a video showcasing his on-field abilities.

Competition from Schalke 04
Widzew faces competition for Karabelov’s signature, however. Schalke 04 Gelsenkirchen, currently leading the table in the second Bundesliga, is also reportedly interested in the player. Despite being valued at approximately EUR 800,000 by Transfermarkt, this figure is unlikely to deter Widzew, which possesses a “huge transfer budget,” according to sources.
The club’s willingness to invest heavily in talent suggests a long-term strategy focused on building a competitive squad capable of challenging for top honors. The pursuit of Karabelov underscores Widzew Łódź’s determination to make a significant impact in the coming seasons.
