Wife’s first husband with complaint; Bangla cricketer to face trial for adultery

Dhaka: Bangladesh cricketer Nasir Hussain is facing trial for adultery. Nasir Hussain is facing trial on a complaint filed by Raqib Hassan, the first husband of Nasir’s wife Tamima Sultana.

The Bangladeshi married Tamima, a flight attendant, on February 14 last year. But Rakib came to the scene claiming that Tamima was still his wife. According to Rakib’s complaint, Tamima got married with a fake divorce certificate. Based on this, a case has been registered against Tamima. Both are currently out on bail.

In Bangladesh, men face severe punishment for adultery. Nasir Hussain could face up to seven years in prison if convicted, legal experts say.

Lawyer Fareed Khan, who appeared for Nasir Hussain and Tamima, said the court would record the testimony of witnesses from March 10. Cases of adultery are rare. Usually it is difficult to prove. Fareed said he was convinced the allegations could not be substantiated.

Nass, 30, made his Bangla jersey debut in 2011. He played 65 ODIs, 19 Tests and 31 Twenty20 Internationals. Nasir last played in an ODI in 2018 against Sri Lanka.
