Northwestern Swimming & Diving Gears Up for Tri-Dual Meet with Minnesota and Purdue

Northwestern University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to conclude thier regular season this weekend with a challenging tri-dual meet against Minnesota and Purdue. The competition will be split between locations, with the swimming events taking place at the Norris Aquatics Center in Evanston, Illinois, and the diving events held in west Lafayette, Indiana.

The swimming portion of the meet begins this Friday, January 30th, at 5 p.m. Central Time, with events resuming the following day at 11 a.m. CT. Divers will compete at 5 p.m. CT on Friday and 10 a.m. CT on Saturday.

The Wildcats recently demonstrated their strength,with the men’s team securing a 161-133 victory over the No. 19 Wisconsin Badgers. however, the women’s team narrowly fell to No. 15 Wisconsin, 154-146. Recent rankings from the Collage Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) reflect the teams’ progress, with the men climbing to No. 19 and the women moving up to No. 23.

Record-Breaking Performances Fuel Momentum

Northwestern athletes have been consistently achieving personal and program bests. The men’s 400-meter medley relay team – comprised of Stuart Seymour, Joshua Staples, Connor Schuster, and Oliver Kós – set a new pool record with a time of 3:05.27. In diving, Adam Cohen shattered both program and pool records in the 3-meter event, scoring an impressive 409.75,surpassing his previous best.

On the women’s side, Chloe Sharpe dominated the 1-meter diving event, earning a score of 312.30.The ‘Cats also excelled in the 200-meter freestyle relays, securing frist place for both the men’s and women’s squads. Notably, the women’s relay team of lindsay Ervin, Ekaterina Nikonova, Audrey Yu, and Amy Panset achieved a pool record of 1:28.06, earning them an A-cut time and a guaranteed spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Cade Duncan also delivered a standout performance in the men’s 100-meter freestyle, finishing in 42.31 – a personal best, pool record, and school record that currently ranks him fourth in the Big Ten conference.

Opponents Prepare for Showdown

Purdue enters the meet after suffering losses in a recent in-state dual meet against Indiana. The Boilermaker men fell to the No. 3 Hoosiers with a score of 209.5-90.5,while the Purdue women lost 186-114 to No. 9 IU. Minnesota, simultaneously occurring, is riding high on momentum after sweeping all 26 events in a tri-dual meet against St. Thomas and South Dakota State, marking a successful start to their home schedule.
