The PVV won the most votes in the early Dutch parliamentary elections in November, and polls show that it will also be successful in the EP elections in June.
PVV’s program before the parliamentary elections clearly stated that the party wants a binding referendum on the withdrawal of the Netherlands from the EU, but such a referendum is no longer mentioned in the program before the EP elections.
Due to his anti-Islamic and anti-EU views, Wilders did not have an easy time convincing other parties to form a joint coalition. However, his promise not to become prime minister allowed coalition talks with three other center-right parties to begin. Negotiations are still ongoing and are expected to continue for several months.
The party’s new program emphasizes that PVV does not want any “European superstate” and will make great efforts to change the European Union from within.
“Cooperation with other countries is good, but preserving our national sovereignty and identity,” the program says.
PVV calls for an end to the “expansion of unelected Eurocrats in Brussels” and opposes the “tsunami” of EU environmental protection regulations.
“It’s up to us to decide whether we eat meat, fly a plane or drive a car with petrol. Not up to Brussels,” the program said.
PVV failed to win a single seat in the 2019 European Parliament elections, but polls show that it could win the most seats this year.
EP PVV operates in the faction of the right-wing parties “Identity and Democracy” (ID), which also includes the French National Union and the German right-wing Eurosceptic party “Alternative Germany” (AfD).
It is believed that right-wing parties will make significant gains in the European Parliament elections.
