Wilk is the first company in the world to present such groundbreaking results, since, according to external studies conducted in the field, breast milk fat is one of the essential components in baby development.

After half a year of in-depth and comprehensive research conducted by Wilk in the field of cultured breast milk in collaboration with the Maternity Department at Rabin Medical Center and the Department of Plastic Surgery at Ichilov, the company now announces a significant breakthrough and positive results obtained in the company’s laboratories. Cultured, produce milk fat.

As previously reported, the company operates in parallel in two significant channels for the production of cultured breast milk both by way of producing cells from milk donations and by way of producing cells directly from breast tissue. In both of these channels, the company strives to establish the culture of productive cells (milk secretors), increase the amount of fat produced and its characterization. In addition, the ability to produce milk fat in cell culture is an indication of the ability to express other milk components such as proteins and oligosaccharides (HMOs). Unlike methods for producing protein substitutes in yeast fermentation, the ability to produce milk fat in culture is unique to these cells.

As part of the studies conducted by the company in collaboration with the hospitals, a number of growth conditions of the cells in the culture that encourage the production and accumulation of triglyceride fat, which constitutes over 95% of breast milk fat, were examined. According to the company, the fat composition produced by these cells corresponds to the composition naturally found in breast milk.
