A question has arisen whether the government will give permission to the project of converting 8,000 houses, which have not been sold, into rental apartments in Chennai-Housing Board project areas.

There is fierce competition among people to buy houses in Housing Board housing schemes.

Over the years, in some schemes implemented by the Board, houses have not been sold properly.

In the areas selected for the self-financing scheme, people are reluctant to buy houses constructed using board funds as they are expensive.

This puts a financial strain on the board’s new projects.

In this case, Housing Minister Muthuswamy, Board Chairman Saravanavelraj and other dignitaries inspected these projects.

Based on this, consideration was given to converting unsold houses into rental properties.

Regarding this, board officials said:

As of now, 8,000 houses are unsold in Housing Board schemes.

Selling these houses was the first priority and avenues were sought.

Accordingly, a certain amount can be waived in the cost of deeding on sale of outstanding houses; This offer may be declared to be exercisable only once.

Also, it was decided to select the unsold lots in the same project and convert those houses into rental apartments.

Instructions for this have been prepared and sent to Housing and Urban Development Department for approval.

We are waiting for the government’s approval. Once the approval is received, the allotment of rental houses will be started.

Thus they said.
