Cricket Australia (CA) is reportedly considering lifting David Warner’s lifetime ban from leadership positions in Auss cricket. According to the report, a crucial decision will be taken after the board’s review meeting on Friday. After the ball-tampering controversy, Warner was banned from cricket for one year and from the captaincy for the rest of the time.

Warner, current Test vice-captain Steven Smith and Cameron Bancroft were banned by the board after the ball-tampering scandal in the 2018 Test match against South Africa in Cape Town. Current white ball captain Aaron Finch, who is in the midst of form, has announced his retirement from ODIs after the T20 World Cup. Following this, the proposal to make 35-year-old Warner the captain of the ODI began. Cricket experts and fans believe that Warner is fit to lead Australia. Warner has been in scintillating form since his return to international cricket. Warner was the star of the tournament in the last T20 World Cup held in the UAE, where Australia won for the first time.

“David is doing well on the field and making a great contribution,” Cricket Australia chairman Lachlan Henderson told a news conference after Thursday’s annual general meeting. They believe it is important to recognize that player bans can be reversed. Henderson added that the matter will be reviewed as soon as possible. Warner, who won the IPL trophy with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, is the third foreign captain to win the IPL after Aussies Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist.
