Phil Foden has been marked for several years as someone who may become the best footballer in the world, or at least one of the greatest. However, the last contract he signed at Manchester City was in 2018 and in recent months the leaders of the English champion tried to reach an agreement with him that would guarantee his future at the club. Tonight (Friday) came the official announcement that the young star signed a contract extension until the summer of 2027.
In the contract he signed in 2018, Foden initially earned about £30,000 a week and as time went on, he was upgraded to £60,000 a week. Now, at the age of 22 and thanks to the new contract, he will become one of the highest paid youngsters in the world – according to estimates he will now earn over £200,000, so his salary will jump by more than three times.
Foden joined Manchester City’s academy at the age of 8, but in his rather young senior career, which began five years ago, he managed to be a part of winning 11 titles and in the last two years he was also chosen as the young player of the season in the Premier League. In recent weeks, he’s also certainly been reminding why he’s been tipped as possibly the best footballer in the world, with five goals and an assist in three Premier League games (including a hat-trick in the derby against Manchester United).
“I’ve been a Manchester City fan all my life, I trained here and I used to even bring balls. I love this club and to know that I will continue here at least until 2027 feels amazing,” Foden said after the signing, “with the squad we have here I feel I can continue to learn and win In degrees – and these are the most important things to me.”
