New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has got a new head coach in the form of Gautam Gambhir, replacing Rahul Dravid. However, the selection of Team India’s supporting staff is yet to be done. Meanwhile, Gambhir has placed a demand before the BCCI. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Gautam Gambhir wants to include former Netherlands cricketer Ryan Ten Deutsche as the team’s supporting staff. Gambhir and this Dutch player have previously worked together for KKR.
Why would the Board of Control for Cricket in India be in a dilemma?
Apart from his role with KKR, Ten Deutsche has been associated with several franchise teams. He has been working for KKR’s franchises in the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket and ILT20. Gambhir has already demanded a free hand in team management. Thus, he wants the 44-year-old Dutch as his key aide. What role Ten Deutsche can play if he is selected is yet to be decided, as the BCCI wants to retain T Dilip, a member of Rahul Dravid’s current coaching team, as fielding coach. However, the final decision rests with the BCCI which has recently favoured appointing only Indians for coaching roles. In such a situation, it remains to be seen what decision the BCCI takes.
Abhishek Nair’s joining Team India is almost certain
Earlier, the report claimed that former India all-rounder and an integral part of the KKR backroom team, Abhishek Nair, could join Gambhir’s team as an assistant coach. Now it will be interesting to see that if Gautam Gambhir has really put forward such a demand before the BCCI, will the board fulfill his demand? Gautam Gambhir has become the new head coach of Team India. After almost eight years, Gautam Gambhir will return to Team India’s dressing room in Sri Lanka. The only difference is that this time he will be seen in the role of a coach and not as a player.
Gautam Gambhir has many big challenges in front of him
Gambhir has said many times before that the only thing on his mind is victory, for which he is ready to do anything. Gambhir’s record is also a witness to this. That is, Gambhir knows how to perform the best in big matches. Team India has faltered many times in the last 10 years. Whether it is about new technology and advanced cricket, Gambhir can adjust with the new boys in every sense. Therefore, under Gambhir’s coaching, Team India can create a new history.
