A diplomatic confrontation broke out today (Sunday) between Ukraine and France, when the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmitry KolbaAnger at the President of France, Emanuel MacronAfter saying that “it is essential that Russia is not humiliated in the war because of the invasion.”
The Ukrainian foreign minister attacked and replied that “allies need to think about how to put Russia in its place, and Macron’s call to avoid humiliating Russia can only humiliate France and any other country that calls it that.”
At the same time, President Macron spoke several times with his Russian counterpart Putin, in efforts to mediate a ceasefire and negotiate with Ukraine. “Putin isolated himself. I told him he made a historic and fundamental mistake for his people, for himself and for history,” Macron said, adding, “Isolating your country is one thing, but being able to get out of it is another and more challenging thing.” The Italian prime minister also aligned with Macron, claiming that “Europe wants negotiations between the two warring countries.”

The President of Ukraine’s adviser also referred yesterday to the French president’s proposal to mediate in the negotiations, and clarified that “there is no point in having a dialogue with Russia until the withdrawal of forces across the Ukrainian border.”
