How is this holiday paid for if I work it?

The Labor Code, Decree No. 1441 of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, establishes Guatemala’s Independence Day as a paid day of rest, so if your company requires you to work during the holiday, this day will be paid to you as overtime, that is, with an additional 50% of the usual salary per day worked.

To calculate this compensation, you can divide your monthly salary by 30 (the number of days in a month) to get your daily salary, and then multiply it by 1.5. The result is the total amount you will be paid for working on a paid day off. Here’s the formula: Salary ÷ 30 X 1.5.

For example, if you earn Q3,000.00 per month, your daily salary is Q100.00, and if you work on a holiday you will receive a total of Q150.00, and the extra you will be paid is Q50.00. So be careful! Don’t forget to do the calculations with your salary.
