Felix Magath could move into a leading position at HSV from the summer. He is said to have already drawn up a plan for the club – with a world star as coach.
Hamburger SV will probably also play in the 2nd Bundesliga next season. In order for the Hanseatic League to secure promotion to the German upper house, they have to hope for a medium miracle in the remaining three games of the season. Dreams of returning to the Bundesliga could be shattered as early as Friday evening if HSV loses the city derby against FC St. Pauli (in the live ticker on t-online).
There will probably be a big change for the “Rothosen” in the summer. There could also be changes at the management level. The future of sports director Jonas Boldt is not yet certain.
The club is said to have already had discussions with Jörg Schmadtke (formerly Hanover, Cologne, Wolfsburg, Liverpool). At least that’s what “Bild” writes. But the paper also brings another name into play, around which there are always rumors: Felix Magath.
Magath is said to have drawn up the HSV plan
The 70-year-old played for HSV as an active professional for ten years, then served as assistant coach between 1993 and 1995 and as head coach between 1995 and 1997. Magath was later under contract with Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern, VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04, among others. With Bayern he won two championships and two DFB Cups. But his highlight was the championship with the “Wolves” in 2009.
Now Magath could lead HSV back into more successful territory. The “Bild” now even claims to have learned that Magath is said to have already drawn up a plan for the Hamburgers. The goal: the complete realignment of the club with a focus on maximum success. He probably has a former protégé in his sights as his dream coach.
Real legend soon to become HSV coach?
We’re talking about Raúl. The Spanish world star made a name for himself as a player, especially at Real Madrid, and is a club legend at the Royals. But Raúl is also a well-known face in Germany, as he played extremely successfully for FC Schalke from 2010 to 2012 – under Magath. It was this who had lured the striker to Gelsenkirchen in the first place.
Now Raúl could return to Germany as a coach. He is currently coaching Real Madrid’s second team and has been in office there since 2019. But according to “Bild”, the chances of a future engagement as a coach of the first team are not particularly high. Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is considered the favorite to succeed Carlo Ancelotti. Exciting: It is said that Raúl is not averse to working with Magath on a new project.
Magath is probably also in contact with donors
As an assistant coach, Magath is apparently keeping an eye on Pit Reimers, who is currently coaching the club’s U21s and with whom he is said to have spoken from time to time in the past. Magath has also already spoken to HSV sympathizers and donors Klaus-Michael Kühne and Eugen Block.
“Bild” writes that even the supervisory board is said to have met with the ex-professional weeks ago. However, it wasn’t about Magath’s ideas for the club. Magath recently called the chairman of the supervisory board, Michael Papenfuß, and even spoke to his voicemail, according to the report. The 69-year-old is said to have never reported back.
