Neuer had decided not to play in Bremen at short notice. The captain was initially on the starting line-up, but had to drop out after warming up. Neuer sustained a minor thigh injury on Tuesday evening in the 9:2 Champions League win against Dinamo Zagreb.
“Manuel Neuer stopped the warm-up. His thigh showed a slight reaction. In order not to take any risks, Sven Ulreich will replace him between the posts,” Bayern announced shortly before kick-off. “We know that we can always rely on Sven,” said Eberl after the game. “It was purely a precautionary measure with Manu. He wouldn’t tear something and then be out for eight or nine weeks. Nobody wants that.”

Thomas Müller is known for his jokes in training. In preparation for the Bundesliga match, however, the 2014 world champion unwittingly became the reason for his teammates to burst into laughter. During one of the games, Müller tripped over a taut rope that was supposed to represent the sideline.
His teammates burst into laughter, some of them kneeling on the ground because they found Müller’s stumble so amusing. The 35-year-old himself took it with humor. “At least that’s good,” he said, pointing to the club’s media team’s camera. “That’s good for the clicks.”
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is hoping that captain Manuel Neuer will be able to play in Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen. His substitution in the 9:2 win against Dinamo Zagreb was a “precautionary measure”. “We don’t want to take any unnecessary risks, but it looks good,” said Kompany before the final training session on Friday, in which Neuer was supposed to take part.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper was substituted at half-time in the Champions League after a collision in the early stages. “I fell once and after that my stamina was a bit off, or rather not the same. Then I hit a few more balls and then it stung my thigh – but nothing serious,” Neuer said after the game. He “assumes” that he will be back in Bremen.

Former national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not take part in FC Bayern’s team training on Thursday. Only Sven Ulreich, Daniel Peretz and junior keeper Leon Klanac were on the pitch. Neuer had collided with Zagreb’s Bruno Petković after just four minutes of the Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb when he went to the halfway line.
The Bayern goalkeeper initially continued playing, but was replaced by Sven Ulreich at half-time. This was just a precautionary measure, said coach Vincent Kompany: “We didn’t want to take any risks.” Neuer himself also gave the all-clear after the game. He “assumes” that he will be back in action on Saturday for the league match against Werder Bremen.
