The Minister of the Union, Kwon Young-sa, raised the invitation for dialogue between the two countries on the eve of the Chuseok holiday – one of the biggest holidays in the two Koreas. He said Seoul was willing to consider Pyongyang’s preferences regarding the timing, place and format of the talks.

Most of the separated families lost contact with their relatives on the other side of the border and if you take into account the fact that the war ended in 1953, there are not many people left who previously knew their family on the other side. Many of those who wish to meet their family members are already in their 80s and for them the need to see the family that was torn apart is more urgent than ever – if not too late. The Minister of Union in South Korea estimates that nearly 400 members of this age group die every month.
