Delhi: Today is crucial for BCCI officials in the Supreme Court. Today, the court will consider the petition seeking amendment in the constitution prepared as per the recommendation of Justice RM Lodha committee. The board wants to relax the rule that one cannot hold office in BCCI or state association for 3 consecutive years.

If BCCI’s petition is rejected, President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jai Shah, Joint Secretary Jayesh George will have to resign. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has also approached the court against the BCCI demand. A bench comprising Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli is hearing the petition. Senior advocate Harish Salve will appear in the Supreme Court for BCCI.

Sourav Ganguly was the secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal in 2014 before becoming the BCCI president. After this, he became the president from 2015 to 2019. The former Indian captain took charge as the head of BCCI in October 2019. Jai Shayawatte was the Joint Secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association since 2014. Jai Shah is currently the president of the Asian Cricket Council.
