Chennai: A question has arisen whether the Chief Minister will intervene in the Government Transport Corporation employee issue.

The 14th pay contract period for State Transport Corporation employees will end next month. However, the new agreement has not been finalized yet. For this, ADMK, two times in the government, and three times in this government, talks were held; There was no agreement.

In particular, the pay scale should be fixed on the basis of seniority. Benefits should be provided on the day of retirement. Pensioners who have completed more than 80 months should be given an increase in gratuity. Unions are adamant in their demand to include those who joined the workforce after 2003 in the old pension scheme.
CITU, the trade union of the Marxist Communist Party has issued a ‘notice’ that if these are not fulfilled by August 2, they will go on strike. The AITUC union of the Indian Commune has written a letter to the Chief Minister emphasizing the same demands. Some trade unions are demanding that state transport corporations be declared government departments.

In this case, other unions are insisting that the chief minister should directly intervene as most of these demands depend on the government’s policy decision.
