It recently became clear that the greatest Formula 1 car designer ever, Adrian Newey, will leave Red Bull to join Aston Martin for a hefty €120 million.

The main shareholder in the team, Lauren Strohl, said that he had never been more certain about his purchase.

In an interview at the launch of the designer, the billionaire Stroll even allowed himself to say that the deal is quite profitable for the team, because of everything that Newey brings.

Stroll has already invested hundreds of millions in the team, building a brand new base next to the Silverstone circuit, and now that he has filled the entire team with big names, Newey could be considered the icing on the cake.

What impact can Newy have on the team?

Newey’s reputation is so great that it speaks for itself. He won 13 drivers’ championships and 12 constructors’ titles for three different teams over 30 years.

Whether he joined Williams in 1990, McLaren in 1997 or Red Bull in 2005, Newey’s presence underpinned each period of dominance.

Evidence of Newey’s strong influence can already be seen in his absence from Red Bull this year.

Newey was last included in the Red Bull team during the race in Miami, which was the beginning of the season.

Since then, he has been involved in the development of the RB17 supercar, while Verstappen and company have significantly reduced their results in recent months.

They are likely to lose the Constructors’ title to McLaren, and Max Verstappen has even started to express concern about potentially losing the Drivers’ title despite his current 62-point lead.

It can’t all be down to Newey’s absence, of course, but some of Red Bull’s apparent lack of understanding on how to fix their car’s problems will certainly play a role.

Newey combines an incredible understanding of aerodynamics with unrivaled experience and insight as a race engineer.

The main reason for Newey to leave Red Bull was his underestimation in recent years of the team’s successes.

The designer has repeatedly stated that much of the success is due to him, but Red Bull has consistently rejected these claims.

How would you fit into Aston Martin?

Newey will join the team in March next year and is expected to work on the 2026 car as the new aerodynamic rules for future seasons are rolled out in January 2025.

“It’s going to be a case of getting on with it as quickly as possible and just as importantly getting to know everyone here as quickly as possible and how to get the best out of each other,” he said.

Next year, Aston Martin is expected to have a certain jump in its performance, but the high hopes will be for the 2026 season.
