At the moment, everything looks like that in 2026, sixteen-year-olds will also be able to vote at state level, because the Greens, SPD, Left and FDP are in favor of it in Berlin. The four parties now have 104 seats in the House of Representatives. That is six more seats than would be necessary for a two-thirds majority, which would have to be achieved for an amendment to the state constitution. A lowering of the right to vote is anchored in all four state election programs. The Greens even go one step further: They say they want to lower the “right to vote in Berlin for elections to the House of Representatives to 14 years”.
