More than half of all goals scored by Zwickau’s Bundesliga handball players this season were scored by Diana Dögg Magnusdottir and Ema Hrvatin. On November 30th it would be bad if the two continued to harmonize so well.

Zwickau.

Put your feet up and put your handball down – what is on the agenda for a large part of the team at BSV Sachsen Zwickau over the next ten days is something captain Diana Dögg Magnusdottir and top scorer Ema Hrvatin cannot think about. While most of their teammates went home on Thursday, the duo from the handball Bundesliga team are also going to Iceland and Slovenia. But by Monday at the latest they will be back on the field: both are part of the squad of their national teams that are preparing for the upcoming World Cup.

BSV captain Magnusdottir is very excited

It starts on November 29th and just one day later there is a very special game in store for all BSV Sachsen Zwickau fans. At the start of Group D there will be a duel between Iceland and Slovenia in Stavanger. While Diana Dögg Magnusdottir is definitely part of the final squad, the decision for Ema Hrvatin will not be made until the end of next week. “We’ll meet on Monday for the preparation camp in Ljubljana. Only then will it be clear who will go,” says Hrvatin, who already played for her country at the World Cup in 2021. The World Cup, however, is completely new territory for her BSV teammate. For the first time since 2012, the Icelandic women are represented at a major tournament. “The anticipation is very great. We are paying more and more attention to women’s handball and we have a good young team. We hope that many fans in Stavanger will support us,” says Diana Dögg Magnusdottir, who at 26 is one of the most experienced players in the squad heard. In addition to Iceland and Slovenia, Angola and France also play in Group D. The best three teams qualify for the main round, which takes place in Trondheim. “Of course we want to progress. I think that we can most likely leave Angola behind us, although surprises are of course always possible,” emphasizes the BSV captain.

Your own mistakes cost Zwickau the points

The Zwickau women got a taste of one of these on Wednesday evening in the last Bundesliga game before the World Cup break. In the duel with second-placed Bensheim/Auerbach, BSV Sachsen held up very well for over 45 minutes, but ultimately lost 25:32 (12:14). This was mainly due to their own performance. “We deprived ourselves of our reward today. There were too many simple mistakes on our part,” said coach Norman Rentsch. The players were also deeply disappointed by the defeat. “We made so many technical mistakes, so many childish mistakes. Whenever it was close and important, we made mistakes. Maybe we just have to believe even more in our heads that we can win a game like that,” she explained Visibly dissatisfied backcourt player Rita Lakatos.

Trainer wants to promote creativity

On November 27th, she and her teammates will come together again in Zwickau to prepare intensively for the last third of the preliminary round in the run-up to Christmas. The games against Halle-Neustadt and Bad Wildungen, among others, are important games in the fight to stay in the league. “We want to collect a lot of points so that we can go into the second half of the season stronger. We have a lot of time in December to work out a new piece of the puzzle in the game system. We will go into individual development again and try to be creative “, says trainer Norman Rentsch, giving an outlook on the coming weeks.
