Will pay a particularly heavy price? According to a report in “Mundo”, goalkeeper of the Argentine national team Emiliano “Divo” Martinez is in danger of being removed from the semi-finals of the Mundia.
As you remember, Martins was a partner in the victory of the “Albiceleste” in penalties over the Netherlands after a super dramatic 2:2 at the end of 120 minutes. The goalkeeper himself deflected two penalty kicks from 11 meters in that duel and was one of the main factors in Argentina’s rise to the semi-finals of the World Cup. But now, it seems that he may pay a heavy price for some words he uttered after the game.
As I recall, the meeting between the “Orange” team and Argentina was particularly heated and included quite a few exchanges of words, punches and gestures during it. According to the reports, after the match, Martinez shouted to Dutch coach Louis van Hal: “I ate you twice, I ate you twice, you dog.” But this is not where the problematic statements of the man between the beams ended.
In the interview he gave after the game, “Divo” also harshly criticized the referee of the match, Matteo Laus: “He is by far the worst referee in the World Cup. He gave 10 minutes extra time in the second half because he wanted Holland to equalize.”
Now, and due to the sequence of these statements, FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation against the Argentina national team regarding the protest of the “Albiselesta” players. The punishment that Martins can suffer: expulsion from the next game – the semi-final of the World Cup against Croatia.
