With the celebration of this new return to the sun, Chirino also arrives at the end of several concerts in Miami and Colombia for the incredible number of 50 years of artistic career. The days of celebrations for the five decades of his artistic life have brought the Cuban numerous recognitions.
The Miami History Museum inaugurated an emotional exhibition in homage to the man born in Consolación del Sur, in the Pinar del Río province. Under the title Willy Chirino: 50 years of music, the institution recalls the vast career of one of the most influential Latino artists of recent times. As part of this tribute, his first guitar and objects of great sentimental value to the singer are on display.
Among his great contributions to music, he stands out for having been one of the creators of the so-called Miami Sound, a particular fusion of Cuban music, rock, jazz, Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms.
In addition, he is much loved among Cuban exiles for raising his voice in favor of the freedom of his native country, from where he emigrated to the United States at the age of 14 as part of the so-called Operation Peter Pan, which involved 14,000 minors leaving the Island bound for the northern country between 1960 and 1962.
