The case of Wilmer Becerra, founder of Wiltech, a company that repairs Apple equipment, was known. However, he received a letter from the Apple company, telling Wilmer not to be authorized to use the brand name and according to the document, he could go to jail.

Some lawyers suggested hiding the “manzanita” logo to avoid legal problems, however, he explains that the user who buys Apple has the right to have the logo on his device. Others suggested putting the Wiltech logo on iPhones, but it could be construed as brand appropriation. These and more doubts arose as to whether or not Wilmer could repair under the laws of Colombia.

“There are many ambiguities because the Colombian government does not have clear laws under the legislation that allow controlling this issue,” said Wilmer. On the other hand, in the United States, protection goes more to the consumer than to the company. According to Wilmer, the US forced Apple to sell its products, the screens, the batteries of the devices, in addition to providing a process manual for repairs.

“As in Colombia these laws are not defined, Apple takes advantage to restrict spare parts.” Wilmer explains that since there is no supply of parts and spare parts accessible to the technical union, users go to unofficial technicians to recover their equipment and not get rid of devices that often have little use time.

In addition, it points out the environmental impact generated by throwing away a mobile device. He suggests that a law that should exist in all countries is that “if you have a company you must have a recycling and reuse program” to avoid the problem of throwing away smartphones if they cannot be fixed.

“Repairing is the most rebellious act that can be done to protect the environment! While millions of new devices are manufactured and thus millions of tons of electronic waste go to the trash each year, I have been here for a long time as a rebel repairing what was already going to the trash. Today it’s not just me! Millions of repairmen in the world with this objective. It is not that they want to prevent me from repairing a piece of equipment, they want to subject you to throwing away your products without giving you the option to repair ”, thus the businessman launched a strong message through his Instagram.

The businessman replied to Apple and told them: “We as Wiltech could be a third-party company endorsed by Apple to be able to repair the equipment that you do not service within your guarantees.” So far, the Colombian defends his position explaining the reasons why those that in Colombia arise the companies that are not authorized by the Apple company for repairs of their devices.
