Djokovic won his round of 16 against Alexei Popyrin on Saturday – and overall: Given that the Djokor only had to have an operation on his right knee during the French Open, it all looks very good.
But not everything is what it seems, as some people know. “I’m glad you think it’s okay. It should give that impression. But it is still a long way from that,” said the Serb to the portal tennis majors.com.
He moved “much better” compared to his first two matches and plays more freely in this regard,” admitted Djokovic, “But it’s OK.” He works with the physiotherapist every day so that he can play the upcoming game.
Djokovic and Kyrgios: pretty much the best of friends
In addition to the video, a man who was Djokovic’s boss for a long time is also contributing to the preparation: Nick Kyrgios.
The Australian is still out of competitive tennis due to injury. But at Wimbledon – and active there as a sparring partner for Djoker.
The pair had already trained at Aorangi Park on Friday, and Kyrgios quotes: “We’ve got a bit of a bromance now and they’re really good friends.”
For Djokovic, Kyrgios seems to be a welcome guest on the other side as well;
“I’m glad he’s available and wants to train with me. “It’s a different feeling when you’re training with a teammate than with a hitting partner – the focus is different, the hits are better, the overall quality of the training is higher,” so Djokovic.
He also hopes that the Australians will return to the tour soon. Kyrgios is a “fantastic player” and “important to our sport for many reasons”. He has this “cocky” attitude that appeals to many. It enabled him to beat me, Federer and Nadal. “He has confidence on the biggest stages.”
