Windows 11 caught copying bank card numbers

The Recall feature in Windows 11 can save users’ sensitive information. The authors of Tom’s Hardware drew attention to this, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.

Recall is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based feature that constantly records the computer screen so that the user can access these recordings at any time. Media journalist Avram Piltch caught Recall being able to copy credit card data, although Windows settings prohibit this.

Piltch tried to enter his bank card number on a number of sites, as well as his Social Security number, a unique identifier assigned to US citizens and residents. He then queried Recall screen recordings and found that in a number of cases the OS had saved this information. At the same time, he had the “Filtering of confidential information” setting enabled, with which Recall should not remember private data.

The journalist noted that in a number of cases, Windows still ignores his banking data: for example, at the stage of purchase in one of the stores, information about the card and social security number was hidden. Avram Piltch contacted Microsoft, and the company responded that errors were possible, but engineers were continuing to improve the feature.
