This should be the fourth time. After Chamonix in 1924, Grenoble in 1968 and Albertville in 1992, the French Alps are now in an excellent position to host the 2030 Winter Olympics. This Wednesday, a decision was expected from the executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) , which was to determine the candidate(s) which would enter into targeted dialogue for the award of the 2030 Winter Olympics. And, according to our information, France is the only candidate selected. Only a catastrophe, a huge hiccup, could now prevent it from hosting this Olympics.

The project, supported by the two French regions Auvergne – Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, has ticked all the boxes from the start. The application file was submitted on time, on November 7, before the organizers held the famous 45-minute grand oral. This obviously convinced the IOC to choose the French Alps to host the 2030 Winter Olympics.

However, the opponents were serious. Sweden and Switzerland had applied to host the athletes and had many advantages. The Scandinavians had notably already missed the boat for the 2026 Olympics, which will ultimately take place in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy). But faced with the power of the French Alps, which proposed a project based on 95% of existing sites, ranging from Nice to Grand-Bornand via Courchevel Méribel, Val d’Isère and La Clusaz, these two countries, crazy about sports winter, ultimately did not make the weight.

The final decision will be made official in July 2024 during the Paris session just before the Summer Olympic Games.
