Winter Storm Expected to Bring Up to 8 Inches of Snow

A winter storm is expected to hit parts of Michigan beginning Friday, bringing with it the potential for up to 8 inches of snow, power outages, and freezing temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued a storm watch for Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties, along with communities near Flint and the Thumb region. Snow accumulations in these areas may exceed 6 inches, with very strong westerly winds producing gusts up to 45-50 mph.

In addition to heavy snow, wind chill values are expected to drop into the single digits on Saturday and below zero on Sunday.

The storm is predicted to impact travel conditions, with whiteout conditions from significant blowing and drifting snow in open areas. Scattered power outages could also occur.

In southeast Michigan, accumulations of up to 2 inches were expected on Thursday, with drivers cautioned to allow for extra time for the morning commute.

Meteorologists are warning that the combination of heavy snow and strong winds could make driving conditions hazardous. Travel in several counties, including Midland, Bay, Huron, and Livingston, could be very difficult.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and prepare for the upcoming winter storm, which is expected to bring significant snowfall and freezing temperatures to the region.
