Winter Weather Forecast & Traffic Update: Snowfall from Baltic Sea and Tips for Safe Travel

by time news

In the next week, the temperature will stay below zero in large parts of the country. During Monday, snow flurries from the Baltic Sea are expected to move in over the southern Norrland coast, creating potential problems on the E4 that runs along the coast.

Johan Groth, a meteorologist at StormGeo, warns that the snowfall may lead to slippery conditions during the day and into the evening. “Then we have new continuous snowfall from Finland that will arrive on Tuesday,” says Groth. While not significant in quantity, the snowfall may still cause traffic issues, particularly in the Stockholm area and along the Norrland coast. The snowfall is expected to continue towards Värmland, Östergötland and Västergötland.

“It can get a little noisy when you go home from work on Tuesday. It’s a good idea to check the weather forecast before heading out on the road,” advises Groth, who does not rule out new weather warnings.

Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, acknowledges the potential for difficult road conditions due to the snow moving into Sweden next week. “On Tuesday, Wednesday and maybe Thursday, the snowfall may get a little help from tough winds from the Baltic Sea,” says Olsson. He further adds that while the snow may be light, if it gets wet and there is a strong wind, it can become very difficult locally.

The Swedish Transport Administration is preparing for potentially difficult traffic situations by expanding its readiness to handle the snowfall. Olsson states that there will be meetings with meteorologists from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) to make further decisions.

The potential impact of the snowfall on train traffic is also being considered. Olsson notes that if indications show that traffic will be difficult, they will stop the traffic, although this is not known currently.

In addition to the concerns about road and train traffic, the snowfall may also affect parents, as dressing children correctly for the weather is important. A children’s nurse with experience in dealing with various age groups advises parents that different ages have different challenges when it comes to dressing for cold weather.

Overall, it is important to stay informed about the weather forecast and to take precautions when traveling.
