Thiruvananthapuram: Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the Chief Minister’s statement that some people will come to oppose any development project in the state is due to guilt. The CM’s confession is the belated wisdom of those who tried to bring in the computer, unloaded the tractor in the field and finally laid the ‘GAIL pipeline’, but tried to overthrow it through a violent strike.
It is a fact that the LDF government worked hard to complete the GAIL pipeline. However, after the completion of the first phase, the UDF government supplied gas to FACT, Kochi Refineries, Kochi Special Economic Zone, TCC, Nita Gelatin and the Kochi City Gas Project. Land acquisition for the second phase and 17 stations was done during the UDF regime. The project was delayed due to protests against the construction of the pipeline. The CPM was at the forefront of the agitation along with many other extremist organizations. Oommen Chandy said that the credit for winning a relay team is not limited to the final lap runners.
