With only 11 Women’s Defense Police Stations (DDM) operating continuously throughout the state, the Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, stated in a letter that São Paulo complies with the determination to provide 24-hour remote assistance to victims of violence.

The letter was sent to state deputy Paula Nunes, from the PSOL feminist group, who questioned the secretary after the federal government sanctioned, in April this year, a law that obliges all women’s police stations to operate 24 hours a day, including weekends. week and holidays.

Among the 140 DDMs across the state, only 11 work continuously, seven in the capital and the others in Barueri, Campinas, Santos and Sorocaba.

In her response, Derrite states that assistance to women is given through any physical police station. Another alternative, according to him, are the rooms where the victim interacts, via the internet, with a team from the Women’s Police Station.

The secretary also suggests that the occurrence can be done through the website of the Electronic Police Station. “The remote model has proven to be efficient, especially for cases in which the woman has the opportunity to leave the house and register”, replied the secretary.

The law, sanctioned by Lula, defines that all police stations for women must work at all times. In cities where there is no female unit, the existing police station should prioritize assistance by a specialized agent.

The parliamentarian complains that, as most cases take place at night and on weekends, São Paulo does not comply with federal legislation or policies to combat violence.

“The virtual record of the occurrence is not effective in cases of violence against women. In a DDM, there is care and reception, which is not possible in the virtual modality”, says the deputy.

At a meeting at Alesp on Tuesday (8), the state secretary of Policies for Women, Sonaira Fernandes, was also questioned about the lack of 24-hour police stations and said that she is waiting for counterparts from the federal government.

“We are discussing and we need to understand what conditions the federal government will give to expand the service of the police stations [24 horas]”, Sonaira said.
