Judo has become popular among children in the capital’s parks. The fighting modality is highlighted in the range of activities available free of charge by Campo Grande City Hall. In total, there are 362 students distributed across the city’s five parks, including Parque Ayrton Senna, Jacques da Luz, Aca (Associação Amigos da Criança e do Adolescente), SOECON (Sociedade Constantino Lopes Rodrigues), ACIESP (Association for Training and Instruction in Economics Solidarity of the people)

The largest audience is at Parque Ayrton Senna, with 104 participants, followed by ACA, with 71 students. The sport is part of the Movimenta Campo Grande Program, which aims to encourage sports among children in the Capital.

There, children learn not only judo techniques, but also essential values such as discipline, respect and self-control. Practicing sports not only promotes children’s mental health, it also helps in child development and contributes to the management of social and emotional skills.

Lucas and Letícia Borges, 11 and 10 years old, do the sport at Parque Ayrton Senna. The mother, Francisca Simone da Silva, explains that the activity has helped her children. “Sport really helps children to socialize with the group, in addition to eliminating a sedentary lifestyle in their lives, I really believe that the discipline of sport has helped them a lot to be responsible with other daily activities”.

Cristiani Soares, 35 years old, mother of Luiz Soares, 10, and Ana Soares, 7, adds that sport has helped with her children’s discipline. “Development at school has improved, because I’m tired of demanding that they study, every two months they take their report card to the teacher to look at their grades. They have respect for others; bodily well-being, every day their emotional well-being becomes more stronger, they learn to deal with their fears.”
