/ The Director General of Roads and Land Transport in Ilam Province, Seyyed Zahin al-Din Cheshmeh Khavar, confirmed on Monday that in the past eleven months of this year (the Iranian year begins on March 21), seven million, 440 thousand, and 502 Iranian and foreign travelers traveled through the Mehran border to Iraq.

A report reported by the Iranian Mehr News Agency and translated by Agency quoted Jashmeh Khavar as saying, “The movement of passengers from the Mehran border crossing increased by 40% during 11 months of this year compared to the same period last year.”

“Seven million, 440 thousand, and 502 Iranian and foreign passengers traveled through the Mehran international border in the eleven months of the current year,” Jashmeh Khavar explained. He pointed out that “this movement increased by 40% if compared with five million, 302 thousand, and 315 passengers who crossed through the Mehran border in the same period of the previous year.”

He stated that the importance of the Mehran port made it the main and most important land port for visitors due to the short distance and the security of the road inside Iraq. During the Arbaeen pilgrimage this year, more than 55% of the Arbaeen pilgrims passed through this port.
