With a goal scored by Argentine midfielder Leandro Maciel, Botafogo beat Água Santa 1-0, this Tuesday (23), at the Estádio Distrital do Inamar, in Diadema, in the second round of the Campeonato Paulista.

Leandro Maciel scored from the penalty spot, 39 minutes into the second half.

With the victory, Tricolor has three points and is in third place in Group D, the same score as São Bernardo, vice-leader, who has an advantage on goal difference and has one game in hand. The leader of the group is São Paulo, who has four points.

With the triumph, Pantera also achieved their first victory against Diadema’s team. Until then, the record was two defeats and two draws

Now, Botafogo returns to the field next Saturday (27), when they face Red Bull Bragantino, at 5:15 pm, at the Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium, in Bragança Paulista, for the third round of the Campeonato Paulista.

THE GAME

With the aim of achieving their first victory in the Campeonato Paulista, coach Paulo Gomes selected Botafogo with two changes compared to the last game. Full-back Wallisson replaced Thalles, while Lucas Cardoso played in Leandro Pereira’s place. Thus, Alex Sandro acted more centrally.

With this formation, Tricolor started looking to attack. After just 3 minutes, Leandro Maciel took a corner, the ball was deflected at the first post and Alex Sandro, free, sent the ball wide.

Even with the soggy pitch, which hampered the exchange of passes, Pantera continued to control the initial stage. At 10, Leandro Maciel took a risk from the edge of the area, however, his shot was blocked.

Água Santa also had difficulty playing. The home team’s best chance came after Cristiano’s shot from midfield and João Carlos’ save.

Botafogo continued with more game volume until the end of the initial stage, however, they were unable to finish with danger.

In the second half, Tricolor maintained the posture of the initial stage. At 12 minutes, Lucas Cardoso received the ball in the middle, adjusted it and filled the ball. Ygor Vinhas palmed it and the ball hit the crossbar and went out for a corner.

From the kick, Bernardo Schappo headed the ball over the crossbar.

Água Santa, on the other hand, was unable to escape Botafogo’s marking and created little.

With the aim of winning the game, Paulo Gomes sent on Emerson Negueba, Tiago Alves and Carlos Manuel. Shortly after, he opted for Patrick Brey to enter.

At 37, Matheus Barbosa headed the ball and Rhuan cut it with his hand inside the area, penalty. Leandro Maciel struck hard into the middle of the goal and made it 1-0.

With the partial victory, Tricolor knew how to defend itself in the last minutes, controlled the match and left the field with three points.
