On the 21st, the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, “In a situation where the stock market is vulnerable and volatile like now, ‘abolition of financial investment income tax’ is the answer,” and “Is Representative Lee Jae-myung’s ‘eating-lifeism’ a selective slogan?”
Park Sang-soo, the People Power Party’s spokesperson, said in a commentary that day, “It is said that the Democratic Party will divide into teams for a discussion on the 24th, with the focus on ‘postponement of the gold investment tax’ and ‘implementation of the gold investment tax’.”
He then pointed out that, “It seems that they reluctantly held a discussion after opposition arose that the ‘gold investment tax is a re-specification tax,’ but the abolition of the gold investment tax, which investors want, was not even included in the discussion.”
He said, “While claiming that the local currency law, which imposes a huge burden on national finances and is intended to be a cash-sprinkling scheme, is ‘eating-out mentality,’ why are they trying so hard to ignore the desperate cries of 14 million individual investors?” He added, “Most of the individual investors are in their 20s and 40s, and if the Democratic Party truly wants to protect the future of young people, its stance on the gold investment tax must change.”
Spokesperson Park also emphasized, “If we choose a deferral instead of abolition, the same situation as today will inevitably happen again,” and “The People Power Party will push for the ‘abolition of the gold investment tax’ to the end so that individual investors are not harmed.”
He also said, “I hope that the Democratic Party will stop wasting time by wavering and quickly decide on its position on the ‘abolition of the gold investment tax,’ which is what 14 million individual investors earnestly desire.”
The Democratic Party will hold a public debate on the gold investment tax on the 24th. The debate will be a three-on-three debate, with Reps. Kim Hyun-jung, Lee So-young, and Lee Yeon-hee from the ‘gold investment tax deferral’ side, and Reps. Kim Young-hwan, Kim Seong-hwan, and Lee Kang-il from the ‘gold investment tax implementation’ side.
