Tijuana, BC- Praising Mexican traditions, as well as generating roots in this city for everyone, is one of the priorities of Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez, who headed this Tuesday the traditional Contest of Altars and Catrinas in the central courtyard of the Municipal Palace.

With the motto “Transforming death into life”, all the staff of the XXIV Town Hall joined the festivities for the Day of the Dead, inviting the Tijuana community to be part of this party that identifies us as Mexicans.

What we are doing here at your City Hall is carrying out these activities so that if you come to do a procedure or issue here in the Palace, you can visit the altars, because we need to rescue Mexican traditions, these traditions that are also Tijuana natives,” stressed the mayor of Tijuana.

The director of Attention to Indigenous Peoples, Maribel Aída Velasco García, highlighted that the municipal government headed by Caballero Ramírez has also sought to promote Mexicanness, as well as the traditions of indigenous peoples, represented in the main altar, installed in the central patio of the Municipal Palace.

In the Catrinas Contest, they participated 18 representatives of all the rooms of the XXIV City Hall of Tijuana, where the participants stood out for their originality, elegance and very Mexican details.

The first place was obtained by the Municipal Government Secretariat with a catrina personified by Jennifer Beltrán, while the second and third place were occupied by the Municipal Presidency and the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC) respectively.

While a total of twelve modules participated in the Altar of the Dead contest, with offerings to family members, workers, characters from political and social life from the region such as Don Eligio Valencia Roque, or artists such as the Mexican music singer, Vicente Fernández.

The altars will be on display for all citizens who come to the Municipal Palace until November 1st.
