The career of 85-year-old Marika Gidali includes different acts, as well as the countless shows she has danced and directed in recent decades.

The first is marked by the footsteps of soldiers and the sound of bombs falling on Budapest, his hometown, during World War II.

The second includes the movement of getting out of that part of history, coming to Brazil and discovering oneself through dance.

The third is made up of steps of Brazilianness and affection with her partner, Décio Otero, who is also a dancer. Together they founded the Ballet Stagium, social projects for children and teachers, and a family.

“Family, for me, is a big hug. And I felt embraced by Brazil. São Paulo became my land,” says the artist, one of those chosen to star in the “Obrigado, paulistanos” campaign of the Jewish community .

“Dance is inside my body, like Judaism. For a long time I cemented history. Even the ballet ‘Holocaust’ [espectáculo], I talked about the Holocaust and cried. Not today. It was through the dance that I managed to break the wall, and it was in a spiritual, beautiful way”, completes Marika.
