Libya participated in the meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates with ambassadors and representatives of Latin American and Caribbean countries accredited to Egypt, regarding supporting the State of Palestine in obtaining full membership in the United Nations.

The Libyan delegation was headed by Ambassador Abdul Mutalib Thabet, Libya’s Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States.

The attendees stressed the need to work to support the rights of the Palestinian people, and the importance of activating the UN General Assembly resolution issued on May 9, which decided the right of the State of Palestine and its eligibility for full membership in the United Nations. The Security Council recommended that this issue be positively reviewed, and decided to grant the State of Palestine more rights and privileges related to its participation in the General Assembly session and international meetings and conferences held under the auspices of the General Assembly.

They stressed their determination to support the State of Palestine obtaining full membership in the United Nations, and to submit the final statement issued by the meeting to the foreign ministers of their countries, to adopt it on the occasion of the (79) session of the United Nations General Assembly.

It is noteworthy that Libya voted last May in favor of a resolution supporting Palestine’s application for membership in the United Nations, which was adopted by a two-thirds majority in the United Nations General Assembly.
