/ The Jordanian Chamber of Commerce announced on Monday that Iraq came first as the largest importer of commercial goods during the month of January, with 61 million Jordanian dinars, equivalent to nearly 86 million US dollars.
The chamber said in a statement seen by Shafak News Agency, “Goods and commodities were exported to Arab and foreign countries during the past month, at about 108 million Jordanian dinars, compared to 99 million Jordanian dinars for the same period in 2023.”
She indicated that “Iraq came first as the Arab country that imported the most from Jordan in terms of the value of imported goods during the past month, which amounted to 61 million Jordanian dinars, followed by the Emirates with 10 million Jordanian dinars, then Egypt with 8 million dinars, Saudi Arabia with 6 million dinars, then Switzerland with 3 million dinars.”
She pointed out that “the Amman Chamber of Commerce issues certificates of origin for agricultural and animal products, raw Jordanian natural resources, and foreign goods that are re-exported,” indicating that “the certificates of origin that went to Iraq amounted to 189 certificates.”
The Jordanian Trade Ministry explained that “the value of foreign product exports (re-exports) amounted to 66 million Jordanian dinars, then industrial products amounted to 16 million dinars, agricultural products amounted to 9 million dinars, Arab products amounted to about 7 million dinars, and the rest was for many other different products.”
It is noteworthy that Iraq imports most of its goods and commodities from neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Iran, after Jordan was a major market for Iraq in the nineties of the last century during the period of the economic blockade.
