Matchday 8 of LigaPro 2024 (phase 1) closed with the match between Liga de Quito and Delfín at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium.
Despite playing with one man less from the 17th minute, Liga de Quito made sure that they were at home by beating Delfín 2-1 with a double from Paraguayan striker Álex Arce (39′ and 76′).
The white team had a frenetic start to the match with a clear missed opportunity by Michael Estrada and the expulsion of their captain, Lucas Piovi. Despite this setback, LDU did not give up on attacking, opening the scoring through Arce, who only pushed the ball in after a great assist from Estrada.
The Paraguayan striker was once again the most outstanding player in the League, scoring his second goal of the night (penalty) to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. Arce reached 10 goals in Serie A 2024, being the absolute top scorer of the national tournament.
Delfín never managed to establish themselves on the pitch, only managing to close the gap through Nicolás Messiniti (88′). The Cetacean team occupies the penultimate position in the table with just 5 points, while LDU rose to fourth place with 15 points.
These teams will have to turn things around quickly, as there will be a midweek match. Delfín will host Macará on matchday 9 and Liga will travel to Machala to play Orense.
