Due to the poor air quality and dry weather in Campo Grande there is an increasing demand for humidifiers, which means that stocks run out quickly in various stores. From large retail chains to small establishments, humidifiers are becoming a rare item on the shelves.
Air pollution and dry weather had a significant impact on respiratory health. Air pollution and low humidity are contributing to an increase in the symptoms of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, even among people without preexisting conditions. Continued exposure to these factors can worsen respiratory problems and increase the risk of complications for people with pre-existing conditions.
For many, the solution is to turn to humidifiers, which help alleviate the discomfort caused by dry air. The demand for these devices has grown exponentially, from compact models, intended for personal use, to larger devices that serve larger environments.
Ronildo da Silva, a salesman at Loja Gazin, located in the Center, confirmed that demand is greater than supply. “The biggest demand today is still the humidifier, but we no longer have it available, as it has been out many times. This hot weather ended up killing us all. Now, the air conditioning, from yesterday until now, started working very well, increasing day by day”.
The seller pointed out that the store recently received a shipment, but the amount was not enough to meet the growing demand. “The humidifier will only be available for 20 to 30 days. Yesterday we got a shipment of 20 or 25, but they didn’t even smell, they were in stock and they were full. He leaves calmly, he would leave more if he had,” he explained.
Major retail chains, such as Magazine Luiza and Casas Bahia, are experiencing problems with stock dwindling. The report confirmed that there were no humidifiers available in these stores, located in the center of Campo Grande. In some stores specializing in other products, few remaining units were found, especially portable tabletop models.
Osmar Romanosque, a nursing technician, reported that it was difficult to find a suitable humidifier for his grandchildren. “It is for my daughter, she has two small children and she is looking for a miniature to put next to the child, because the weather is very dry and not only for the children, but everyone suffers from it . When you’re a child, it’s worse.” He also noted that the increase in demand has resulted in higher prices for humidifiers.
Mini Life store manager, Paloma Lemos, confirmed that the demand was more intense, especially in the last 15 days. “I can’t even test it, because there is so much demand. Humidifiers still don’t have many units, they arrive and leave very quickly. In the last 15 days, there has been a significant increase in sales.” According to the manager, the demand was more focused on the use of humidifiers as a room diffuser, but now it is clear that it is driven by bad weather.
For those who cannot find humidifiers, the solution is improvisation. Ana Paula Silva, a housewife, uses other methods to improve the air humidity in her home.
“I put on the wet towel, put a basin with water and a fan and put cold water on him. That’s because it’s very hot, but it’s still too hot. I do this for everyone at home, even for the animals that are suffering, because I have Lhasa, wow, she is suffering too. My husband was looking for humidifiers to buy, but he couldn’t find any,” she reported.
Denize Rezende, who recently had to resort to buying a humidifier, found other ways to cope with the dry climate. “I slept with the window open, with a fan and a humidifier. I had to buy it, there was no way. In my house, I always leave the windows open, I also take a shower before going to bed,” he said.
