After 5 days of road blockades and protests, the Serbian farmers signed an agreement with government officials over the weekend, agreeing to higher subsidiesmilk premium, tax on imports and other won advantages, reports euractiv.com.

The agreement increases the maximum area of ​​arable agricultural land from 1 January 2024, which will increase from 20 to 100 hectares.

The milk premium per liter will be 19 dinars (0.16 euros) instead of 15 dinars (0.13 euros), while the cow subsidy will increase from 30,000 to 40,000 dinars (255 to 341 euros). In addition, an analysis of the import control of milk and milk products will be carried out and communication with producers will continue.

To the farmers from Serbia it was promised that talks would continue to regulate the market by introducing quotas for milk producers.

A tax on the import of semi-hard cheeses from the EU of 300 dinars (2.6 euros) per kilogram was also agreed.

The drainage charge will be reduced by 50% and will be abolished in 2024.

Farmers were also promised a market analysis on grain management.

In addition, the so-called “blue diesel” will be introduced in terms of discounts for diesel fuel, which refers to discounts in the amount of excise duty for 100 liters of diesel fuel per hectare for all registered areas of agricultural holdings.

Talks on the future agricultural budget, new policy and subsidy policy will happen as soon as possible.

Under the agreement, the government guaranteed that participants in the farmers’ protest would not be prosecuted in cases related to the demonstrations.

On the other hand, the farmers promised to withdraw immediately from the streets and the communication with the government to continue peacefully.
