Special Prosecutor Act Considered Likely to be Held at Plenary Session on the 12th
The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s Prosecutors’ Office Investigation Review Committee’s recommendation on the 6th to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office investigation team to decide not to indict Kim Kun-hee regarding the Dior bag bribery suspicions, saying, “The investigation review committee, which was appointed as a means to justify the decision of pardon, is a rigged game of Go-Stop that was already concluded and proceeded with.” The People Power Party stated, “We respect the decision of the investigation review committee,” and “Unconditional criticism and political offensive against a legal conclusion is an act that undermines the foundation of the law and order.”
Democratic Party spokesperson Hwang Jeong-ah criticized in a written briefing that day, “The entire nation watched with the eyes of a fierce tiger, but nothing changed,” and “We have only confirmed the brutality of the prosecution’s power that has been monopolizing the law and justice of the Republic of Korea.” She also said, “The investigation review committee that allowed Mrs. Kim, who received a bribe, to attend but excluded Pastor Choi Jae-young, who reported the request, is nothing more than a rigged game of Go-Stop that has already made a conclusion,” and “The public’s anger has already passed the critical point. The only answer is a special prosecution.”
The Democratic Party is strongly considering a plan to put the “Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act,” which includes the suspicion that Ms. Kim intervened in the ruling party’s nomination for the 22nd general election, on the agenda for the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 12th. A key member of the National Assembly said in a phone call, “It wasn’t originally planned, but as the circumstances surrounding Ms. Kim’s election intervention have come to light, the atmosphere is growing that the “Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Act” cannot be delayed,” and “The atmosphere is moving toward putting it on the agenda for the plenary session before Chuseok.”
On the other hand, People Power Party senior spokesperson Kwak Gyu-taek said in a commentary, “Accepting legitimate decisions in accordance with law and procedure is the basis of the rule of law and democracy,” and “The political world should not forget that what it should do is not ‘wasteful political strife,’ but ‘restoring the people’s livelihood. ’” People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Sang-beom, who is the floor leader of the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee, said in a phone call with the Dong-a Ilbo, “The investigation review committee system was introduced by the former Moon Jae-in administration under the pretext of citizen control over the prosecution,” and “It is self-contradictory to criticize it because you don’t like the results of its judgment.” He was criticizing the opposition party for criticizing the results of the investigation review committee.
