With the 9 series OnePlus returns to innovate big time

by time news

Time.news – Sometimes the most innovative companies need to stop for a moment and look back to rediscover where they come from and understand which path to take. It happened to OnePlus, one of the smartphone manufacturers most loved by those who refuse to be mainstream and who, after having mixed up the cards with a revolutionary marketing campaign and excellent quality products at reasonable prices, was a bit lost, running into choices that hadn’t found favor with fans.

Because in the case of OnePlus of fans and not just buyers it is. Suffice it to say that they – the community – have almost always been the basis on which designers and architects have turned to understand what characteristics the next model should have. And when they stopped doing it, the brand set the pace, lost market share and, above all, innovative appeal.

Now it can be said that the house founded by Pete Lau has found its way again and has put on the track one of the best smartphones of this season, together with a partnership that seems destined to distinguish the production of the Chinese house for the next few years. Thanks to a three-year agreement with Hasselblad, the photographic sector is the strong point not only of the top of the range of the flagship series presented on Tuesday 23 March, but of all three models for a spending range definitely below competitors and ranging from 719 to 919 euros.

The 9 series marries in the photographic field that ‘counter-revolution’ that seems to have become a common philosophy among Chinese producers: less artificial intelligence and more realism. Fewer photos improved to almost mystification and more rendering of reality: in the details, in the color and in the light.

The partnership with Hasselblad currently focuses on Natural Color Calibration that marries a new generation of displays so that what is photographed is best rendered on the screen.

A sector that requires level performance and for this reason the 9 series is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and the 120 Hz Fluid Display QHD + which incorporates a latest generation technology to improve battery life and gaming performance.

The Warp Charge 65T and Warp Charge 50 Wireless reduce the charging time of the device.

Over the years, what has been most contested by Chinese manufacturers of smartphones with quality cameras has been the ‘push’ on color. Now with Hasselblad Camera for Mobile, OnePlus tries to restore authenticity to images, calibrating the sensors of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro together, running numerous laboratory tests and leveraging Hasselblad standards to analyze hundreds of real-life scenes through computational photography and refine color, thanks to their mutual understanding of the color performance of the camera and the needs and habits of smartphone users.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s 48MP main camera is equipped with an IMX789 sensor designed in collaboration with Sony, The 50MP ultra-wide camera uses a Sony IMX766 sensor and the Freeform Lens uses a series of specially designed curves to correct the light in entry, bringing the distortion at the edges of the photos to about 1%. The ultra-wide camera also allows you to capture macro photos with the ability to focus from a distance of 4 cm from the subject.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s 8MP telephoto lens offers 3.3x (77mm) zoom with optical stabilization (OIS) to reduce blur, with up to 30x digital zoom. In addition to these cameras, OnePlus 9 Pro features a dedicated monochrome camera which works in conjunction with the OnePlus 9 Pro’s main camera to add detail and layering to black and white photos and the tilt-shift function that simulates the special miniature effect of a tilt-shift lens for more creative photos.

The OnePlus 9 Pro’s main camera has 16 times more pixels than standard 1080p for high-quality video. It can shoot at 4K 120fps, providing more and more creative possibilities in video shooting and editing, thanks also to the Digital Overlap HDR (DOL-HDR) which ensures a clear view of the subject in backlit environments. The OnePlus 9 Pro’s ultra-wide camera can also create time-lapse videos on the go.

The Fluid Display integrates LTPO technology that automatically adjusts the refresh rate from 120Hz down to 1Hz to suit the user’s needs, with significantly lower power consumption. Hyper Touch technology also offers a much faster response time when playing certain games, increasing the synchronization speed between the processor and the display at 360 Hz – up to six times faster than before. The 5G connection is powered by the integrated X60 5G Modem-RF system.

The Warp Charge 65T provides the energy needed for daily use in just 15 minutes and can recharge from 1 to 100% in 29 minutes. The OnePlus 9 Pro achieves this speed by using a 4,500mAh battery with an improved dual-cell design to reduce internal resistance and heating while charging. This gives the OnePlus 9 Pro the ability to charge at a higher power for an extended period.

The Warp Charge 50 Wireless charges both battery cells at 25W, charging from 1 to 100% in 43 minutes.

The OnePlus 9 Pro is available in three nature-inspired colors – Morning Mist, Pine Green and Stellar Black – and offers an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

OnePlus also presented the first wearable, a round watch that emulates the look of a traditional one and a 46mm stainless steel case. It offers a battery life of two weeks, with 5 minutes charging for a day and 20 minutes for a week. It will be available at 159 euros.
