In view of this, the first such mountain tank has been made in the country whose features are enough to give China sleepless nights. DRDO has made this mountain tank named ‘Joravaar’. This tank has been designed to meet India’s needs on the border with China. The first test of Zoravar was successfully completed on Friday. This tank weighs 25 tonnes. The special thing is that this tank can be transported to any destination via airplane.
Why would China be afraid of Zoravar?
The Zorawar tank, weighing 25 tons and powered by a powerful 750 horsepower engine, can be a disaster for the enemy on any front. It is a light tank, which is a combination of exceptional mobility and unmatched firepower. It has a gun of 105 mm or more caliber. Anti-tank guided missiles can be fired from it. Zorawar has a minimum weight of 30 horsepower per ton. This 25-ton tank has been made for deployment in high altitude areas. Small size, light weight as well as the ability to be transported by air can make it a game changer in wars fought in mountainous areas.
DRDO successfully tested ‘Joravaar’
The initial automotive test of the Indian light tank ‘Zoravar’ was conducted in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The first phase of the developmental field firing trial of the Indian light tank was successful. The field trial successfully met all its objectives in the desert areas. During this test, the tank hit the target with the expected accuracy. Strong armor has been installed in the Zoravar tank. This tank can run at a speed of 60 km per hour on land. It is also capable of moving in water. Learning from the standoff with China in eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army is strengthening itself. Along with this, the army is also making necessary changes in its strategy after seeing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. In this episode, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed India’s first mountain tank Zoravar. Its first test was successfully completed on Friday. This 25-tonne tank is designed for deployment in high altitude areas. The Defense Ministry said that DRDO successfully completed the initial automotive test of the Indian light tank, Zoravar, on September 13.

Defense Minister Rajnath said – important achievement
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the test is an important milestone for India. He described the successful tests as a milestone for India towards self-reliance in critical defence systems and technologies. DRDO’s Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) has developed the tank in collaboration with Larsen & Turbo. The Indian Army plans to deploy 350 Zorawar tanks, most of which will be in mountainous terrain.
How did the tank get the name ‘Joravaar’
DRDO had earlier developed the third generation Arjun tank, which weighs 58.5 tonnes. But after the standoff with China, the need for a light tank for mountainous terrain was felt. Zorawar was developed in a record time of about three years. The name ‘Zorawar’ is derived from the Punjabi language word ‘courageous’. This tank will be ready to join the army in the next three years. The project is named after General Zorawar Singh Kahluria, who served under Raja Gulab Singh of the Dogra dynasty of Jammu. He helped expand the Dogra region by conquering Ladakh.

Experts said that this tank will prove to be very effective even in bad weather and difficult conditions on the northern border and can perform well even in desert areas. Equipped with strong armor for tanks of its class, it can also move in water. Its speed on land is about 60 kilometers per hour.
