The annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank 2024 kicked off in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, yesterday, Saturday, with the participation of the Minister of Local Government, Badr al-Din al-Toumi, and delegations from Islamic countries.

The meeting activities witnessed broad participation from senior officials and decision-makers from various member states of the Bank, as the annual meeting coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Bank.

The first day’s activities addressed a number of key issues related to core topics, such as benefiting from Islamic finance to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

The attendees discussed the potential of Islamic finance to enhance investment in infrastructure projects, focusing on how this is compatible with sustainable development goals and its contribution to economic development.

A panel discussion entitled “The Road to Prosperity: Multidimensional Poverty in the Member States of the Islamic Development Bank” was held, during which success stories and emerging challenges in this context were presented, in addition to the launch of the new Multidimensional Poverty Index of the Islamic Development Bank.

The first day concluded with a dialogue session entitled 50 years of supporting cooperation between the South-South member countries of the Bank. This session aimed to introduce the importance of exchanging knowledge and experiences between member countries and benefiting from them to transfer knowledge.

The Libyan delegation includes the Director General of the National Program for Small and Medium Enterprises, Ahmed Al-Namawi, and the Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Organization Affairs at the Ministry, Shadia Oreibi.
