Libya participated in the preparatory meeting for the Extraordinary Summit of the African Union on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Agricultural Development Programme, which was held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, in the presence of foreign and agricultural ministers from African countries.
Libya was represented at the meeting by Muhammad Zidan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Expatriate Affairs in the Government of National Unity, and Muhammad al-Turki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
During the meeting, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Expatriate Affairs delivered a speech on behalf of the Libyan delegation, in which he emphasized “the importance of the agricultural sector as a basic pillar for the development of African economies,” praising the support provided by the Government of National Unity to develop the agricultural sector in recent years, to achieve food security.
In his speech, he also stressed the need to complete the continental financial institutions, led by the African Investment Bank, and called on member states to expedite the ratification of the protocol for establishing this institution. He stressed the importance of directing efforts towards empowering African youth and increasing their productivity to address the issues of unemployment and illegal immigration, in order to achieve sustainable development for the continent.
The Libyan delegation concluded its speech by emphasizing the importance of the summit’s outcomes contributing to the development of effective agricultural policies that enhance the continent’s capabilities to achieve sustainable agricultural development and food security.
