This Monday, at 17:00 (Brasília time), Fifa holds the award ceremony of The Best to the highlights of football in the men’s and women’s categories. The choices were made based on performances from August 2021 to December 2022.

Among the men, competing for the best player of the year award: Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé (both from PSG) and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid). In the female category, Beth Mead (Arsenal), Alex Morgan (San Diego Wave) and Alexia Putellas (Barcelona) are the finalists for the award.

Those chosen as the best coaches and best goalkeepers (both in men’s and women’s football) will also be announced, as well as the author of the most beautiful goal of the year (Puskas Award), the winners of the Fair Play Awards and the best fans. Finally, the men’s and women’s teams will be announced with the 11 best players in each category.

The award has the participation of several figures of Brazilian football. This is the case of the coach of the Brazilian women’s national team, the Swedish Pia Sundhage, who is among the finalists for the Best Coach of the Year award, and Richarlison, of Tottenham, who, with the great volley scored against Serbia in the Qatar Cup , competes for the Puskás Prize.

Furthermore, among the 26 nominees for the men’s team of the year, there are four Brazilians. They are Alisson (Liverpool), Thiago Silva (Chelsea), Casemiro (Manchester United) and Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain).

There will also be tributes to Pelé, who died in December last year due to complications from colon cancer. Relatives of the King of Football, like his wife Márcia, should be present at the ceremony in Paris.
